One of my favorite things to do is to hunt around at thrift stores looking for items that could be transformed with a little TLC. I came across this table for 50% off and was instantly drawn to the charming vintage caning on the top. However, it’s dark glossy wood was definitely not a look I was going for. But I could see the potential!
I knew with a simple can of spray paint that I could take this table from dark and outdated to something modern here in 2020. Rust-Oleum is my go-to brand of spray paint that I’ve been using for years. I love the coverage it offers, and the wide selection of colors they have to choose from.
My eye was drawn to their Rustic Pink color because I love the muted blush pink tone of it. I’ve been seeing this peachy pink popping up everywhere and it’s definitely becoming the new neutral! I also love that this is the Ultra Matte formula because I am personally a huge fan of a matte finish. This Rustic Pink is one of the colors chosen as part of Rust-Oleum’s Color Watch for 2020, which is a great source for color trend inspo. This particular shade of spray paint is BRAND NEW and will be in stores soon, so keep an eye out for it!
Transforming this table was so easy, and is a great example of the simple power of paint. Let me give you an simple step-by-step breakdown of what I did:
My first step was to use painters tape and kraft paper to cover the vintage caning on the top of the table. I wanted to make sure this area on the top of the table remained unpainted.
Then I used 220 grit sand paper to lightly sand the table since the wood was so glossy. This way it prepared the surface to allow the spray paint to adhere better.
Next up: the fun part! Using Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2X Ultra Cover Ultra Matte in Rustic Pink spray paint to transform this table from outdated to 2020 chic. I’ve spray painted A LOT of things over the years and the trick to getting good smooth spray paint application is to keep the can constantly moving and use a left-to-right motion. I waited a few minutes between coats, and ended up doing 3 coats total. I have found that doing light coats yields a nice smooth even finish in the end.
With this project complete in just a couple hours (most of
that time was simply waiting for it to dry), I was excited to add it in my
daughter’s room to see how this Rustic Pink complemented the tones we had in
her room with the new wallpaper.
Paint is such an incredible and budget-friendly force for
transforming old outdated items! You don’t
necessarily have to go out and buy new things to create a space you love. Instead look around at what you already have
in your home, or find a cool piece at a thrift store, and breathe new life into
it with a simple coat of paint! You’ll
be amazed at the transformation that can happen with a little bit of paint and
creativity!
This shade of spray paint, Rustic Pink, is one of NINE colors chosen by Rust-Oleum as part of their Color Watch 2020 palette which is aimed at empowering and inspiring YOU as you design your own home. After reviewing home & fashion trends, these are the 9 inspiring new spray paint colors that Rust-Oleum is releasing for 2020:
I love seeing the palette that Rust-Oleum chose, and it’s fun to envision where I see these colors fitting well into home decor trends in the year ahead. Their modern mint is a shade that will make a beautiful accent color in a kitchen space! Their Gunmetal Gray would be perfect for revamping hardware to give it a more modern appearance. I’ve heard quite a few trend predictions that blue will be a hot color this year, and Rust-Oleum’s Ink Blue definitely hits the right notes for that current trend. And of course, I’m obsessed with Rustic Pink, a shade that I think will become the new neutral. Make sure to check out Rust-Oleum’s Color Watch 2020 for more inspo on how to incorporate these colors into your home decor projects this year!
This post was sponsored by Rust-Oleum, but all opinions and color selections were my own, and it should be noted that I used (and loved!) Rust-Oleum paint for years, long before any sponsorships. Thank you for supporting me and the brands I partner with!

I love the wallpaper. Can you share the product info? Thanks
Sure! It is from anewalldecor and it’s called the Magnolia mural 🙂
I’m totally new to DIY. I have some vintage dining room chairs with dark stained caning on the backs. Can you paint or sand the caning?
I love your whole feed and website! It’s nice to see some color in a world of white ❤️
Thank you! You can paint caning, but you cannot sand it. It would flake apart.
So soft looking! What a beauty. I love makeovers.
I’ve recently purchased my own home and I am slowly starting to realize what a difference paint can make! love this!
