Want a simple yet stylish DIY project that can be finished in an afternoon without any fancy tools or specialized skills? Well I’ve got one for you! This simple wall rack will add both storage and style to any space in your home, and can work easily as well in a bedroom, entry, bathroom, or just about anywhere! This idea was sparked by some Ikea handles I had lying around that I decided to get creative with! Here’s what you need to create this in your home.
Step 1: Decide where you want to place your rack on your wall. Attach your first Ikea Osternas strap vertically to the wall. You will want to drill a hole that is approximately the size of your anchor, but just a bit smaller. After you drill the hole, then insert your anchor (I will sometimes use a hammer to lightly tap mine in). Then line up the top hole of the Ikea leather strap with the drill hole, and put your screw in to secure the strap to the wall.
Step 2: Bend the leather strap a bit so that there will be space to put the dowel through, and create a bit of a gap to “cradle” it, so that it’s not too tight to the wall. (You’ll want that extra wiggle room for the S hooks later on). Then repeat the process from Step 1 where you drill a hole, insert an anchor, and put in the screw on this bottom hole of the Ikea leather strap. (If you’re not sure how use a drill or anchors, I have a detailed tutorial in my saved stories highlights on Instagram called “How to Hang”)
Step 3: Determine where you need to place the second strap on the other side of the dowel, and repeat steps 1 and 2 for the leather strap on that other side. Use a level to make sure things are straight.
Step 4: Take your dowel (which can be cut to your desired length for free when you buy it at Home Depot or Lowe’s), and slide it through the straps.
Step 5: Add matte black S hooks to the dowel. Hang purses, coats, hats, or just fun pretty things from it. Step back and enjoy!

Found this great bench at the thrift store while shopping one day. I had the perfect place for it. And for $29.00, I could not pass it up. The fabric was worn but I could see how much potential this piece had. Then while at HomeGoods, I found a beautiful clearance rug for $19.00! The […]
I decided it was time to do something about the painted 90’s linoleum floors that have been bugging me for a while. We have dreams of doing a full renovation on this bathroom some day, but it’s not the time for that quite yet. So instead I decided to give this floor a quick & […]
