I get asked quite often for tips on how I keep my plants alive and thriving. But the truth is…they’re not thriving…they’re fake! Give me a real plant, and you are pretty much giving it a death sentence. Lol. Just ask my husband. I often forget to water real plants, because life gets busy and my children need water more than my plants do. Priorities, right?! So for this stage of life, faux is the way to go!
But the reason so many people are fooled by my greenery is because I’m very particular that it’s got to look realistic.
So if you’ve got a black thumb or a busy schedule and you love the look of plants in your home without all the maintenance, I’ve rounded up some of the most realistic looking options out there, many of which are in my own home!
A REALISTIC & AFFORDABLE FAUX FIDDLE LEAF FIG:
I got lucky and stumbled upon this fiddle leaf fig at Home Goods one day. Unfortunately they don’t sell online, BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS that there is a beautiful twin to this fiddle leaf fig that can be found here. In fact, I love this one so much that I’m thinking about getting it for another corner of my home. I’ve got a plant problem. But I can’t stop. Won’t stop. Just call me the crazy {faux} plant lady, lol!
WHERE TO FIND A FAUX SNAKE PLANT:
I love the height and the clean lines of a snake plant! Click here for my favorite online faux snake plant.
This one is also a good option and I have it in my office, but is only available in stores, so you’ll have to search your local zip code to see if its available near you.
MY FAVORITE FAUX CACTUS:
There’s no denying the boho desert vibes that are going strong right now in home decor, and the moment I laid eyes on this cactus in it’s concrete planter, I was sold! I choose to put mine in a basket for some added texture, but this looks just as pretty in its original planter as well.
BEST FAUX EUCALYPTUS GARLAND:
Hands down, this is the best garland that is perfect for all the seasons and will work in your home year-round. Use it on a mantle, as part of a tablescape centerpiece, or draped on a shelf…the possibilities are endless!
SMALL POTTED GREENERY:
The combination of a white & wood pot with clean lines, combined with the unique greenery make this one a winning option! And the muted tones and concrete pot make this one a favorite of mine. I currently have both of these sitting on the open shelves in my kitchen!
OTHER SOURCES:
Whenever I am in Home Goods, I always stroll down the plant aisle to see what they have. This store is a great resource for finding faux greenery. Michael’s and JoAnn’s are also great places to find realistic looking fake plants. I know Hobby Lobby has a large floral selection, but to be perfectly honest, I feel that many of their options are not as realistic looking, and therefore they personally are not a place I will look for faux greenery (though I love them for just about anything else – especially wall art!)
When you are shopping for faux greenery, try to avoid anything that appears too shiny or silky. Also, make sure to avoid any plants whose leaves are sheer in the light, as this is a dead giveaway that it’s a fake plant and not a real one. So keep that in mind anytime you’ve got that fake plant in your hands in the aisle of a store!
So there you have it! My secret sources for the fake plants I have that seem to have everyone fooled into thinking they’re real. Hopefully a few of you will join me now on Team {Faux} Plant Lady!
