By far, my favorite way to easily change the feel of a space is to paint it! ?I wanted something very neutral in this space and so I opted for a warm taupe color. ?Knowing that I?d be adding Champagne Bronze accents to the powder room later on, I felt that this shade would allow the hardware to truly shine and be the focal point of the room!
Step 2: Add a New Faucet on a Repurposed Sink Top
The next step to transforming this powder room was to upgrade the brushed nickel faucet to something more modern and with a bit more personality. ?Having visited Delta Faucet headquarters last year, I remembered seeing a two-tone faucet from their new Dorval collection and I knew that was exactly what I wanted for this powder room.?? The Champagne Bronze and porcelain combo is stunning!? It feels fresh and unique, and is the perfect blend of traditional and modern styles. ??
Not to mention the fact that the Dorval collection was inspired by French architecture and German castles, which reminds me of my time spent in Germany as a 16 year old exchange student where I had the opportunity to literally see German castles in person.? I believe good design not only looks beautiful but is also meaningful!? So the fact that these faucets evoke memories of that special experience in my life makes this space even more meaningful than meets the eye.? ?Since we had already determined that we were going to repurpose our existing sink top, we knew we needed a widespread faucet, so this two handle widespread bathroom faucet from the Dorval collection was the perfect winner.? There is also this similar cross handle design which is equally as beautiful.
Step 3: DIY a New Vanity with a Simple Minimal Design
Our previous vanity was made from pressboard and was literally flaking and warping, so we knew it was time for an upgrade.? After searching what was on the market, I was disappointed that there wasn?t much out there that was both unique and affordable. ?After coming up empty handed, we decided to be true to our DIY roots and build our own!? Something big on style, but easy on our budget! ?We used our previous vanity as a template and constructed this new vanity to take up the same footprint as the previous one since our powder room is very small.? Using the previous vanity as a template made it really easy to know what dimensions we needed as we were building.? To construct the vanity, we used maple faced plywood, which we attached using a nail gun, wood glue, and wood screws.? We left it in its natural un-stained state and simply coated it with a clear matte water-based sealer to protect the wood without changing the color.?? We decided to fore-go handles and instead cut out half-moon shapes that would act as handles (which we literally just traced with the round edge of a middle school protractor, lol ? keeping it simple, folks.)? On the upper door of the vanity, we used a piano hinge.? Then we used drawer slides on the bottom drawer so it would pull out.? The finishing touch was to use edgebanding on the raw edges to give this piece a finished professional look.? Edgebanding is so simple ? it literally just requires an iron, and the adhesive will adhere to the edges of the wood, giving any piece a truly quality finish. ??My goal was to create a vanity with a simple unique Scandinavian vibe:? light wood, clean lines, and simplicity.? And I think we nailed it!
Step 4: Add Coordinating Accessories
Since we used the Delta Dorval faucet in Champagne Bronze & porcelain, I wanted to incorporate that bronze finish in additional places in the room.? Adding this 8″ Dorval Towel Bar was the perfect way to tie an additional Champagne Bronze fixture into this space. And since Delta offers a large selection of lengths, we were able to choose a nice, petite 8″ one for this small half bath.
And since it?s always a good idea to add any accent color in at least 3 places in a room, I added this affordable mirror with it?s beautiful bronze rim. Throw in a few thrifted accessories to create a little vignette and this powder room refresh is complete!
These 4 changes made a huge impact in this small space, and I couldn?t be happier with this refreshed look!? ?I hope this inspires you to consider what space in your home might be next on the list to breathe new life into!
A big thank you to Delta Faucet for sponsoring this post. I?ve bought Delta faucets for years, so getting the opportunity to now partner with them is truly an honor. Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog!
