Last year we gave our kids bathroom a budget facelift with a new vanity, flooring, and a fresh coat of paint. The transformation was pretty significant since what was there before was the original 90’s yellowed linoleum and brown trim. However, after renovating it, life got busy and I never really took the time to truly give it the finishing touches of style and personality. It was nice enough, and it functioned, but it was bland and boring, as you can see here:
And it was time for that to change! Since our first floor has been a construction zone in recent weeks, we have been relying on this bathroom for ourselves and our visitors, and it was time for it to finally get the transformation it deserved. Here are some simple changes I made to take our bathroom from Boring to Beautiful in less than 2 hours! And these are tips that YOU TOO can take to transform your bathroom from blah to ooh la la 😉
Find one item you love and let that guide the direction that the rest of the room will go.
For me, the moment I laid eyes on this Coyuchi Rippled Stripe Shower Curtain, I knew it was “the one”! I love the beautiful details, the clean lines, and the organic feel of the fabric.
If you aren’t sure where to start with your bathroom makeover, I recommend either finding a shower curtain or a wallpaper that you love, and let that lead the way for the color palette and style decisions you will make for the rest of the room.
I cannot over emphasize the importance of including texture in any space you design! Often times, this gets overlooked in bathrooms, which is part of the reason they often feel bland and boring. I intentionally choose this Cotton Twill Bath Rug from The Company Store with it’s chunky knit appearance to add texture and warmth to our bathroom. And not only does it enhance the style of this space, but it is functional as well, and my kids (especially my daughter) love stepping out of the bath onto this super soft rug. So find a rug with texture for your bathroom!
Let’s face it…due to heavy use, towels can get pretty dirty and worn out quickly, especially if you’ve got kids running around your home, because we all know they only get so much of that dirt off in the 3 seconds that they actually spend washing their hands, lol. So if you want to give your bathroom a fresh clean appearance, new towels are a must! I love the combination of these Organic Cotton White Towels (because white always looks fresh and clean) along with these Diamond Edge patterned towels (because they add some personality and visual interest). It sounds simple, but new towels really go a long way in making a space feel so fresh and so clean, clean, clean!
Go the extra mile to make your bathroom not just a functional space, but add a little bit of luxury in there as well. Add a candle and some bath oils. It is details like this that will truly elevate your bathroom from Boring to Beautiful!
Treat yourself to a comfortable robe. I love this Regal Egyptian Cotton Robe, particularly this time of year as the nights begin to cool off, and it adds an element of coziness and comfort to my nighttime routine.
Bathrooms are a fun space to play with bold style choices and to do some pattern mixing.
I had fun mixing the patterns on the backsplash tiles, and then having them in close proximity to the lines on the wall art, while also having the pattern of the Coyuchi Striped shower curtain going on as well.
Despite the various patterns, these things all work well together because they have a consistent color palette. If you want to take your bathroom from Bland to Beautiful, then be sure to add a punch of personality with some pattern mixing!
Having greenery in your bathroom adds instant life and style to an otherwise bland space.
I recommend setting greenery on the windowsill, the edge of the vanity, or on open shelves. If your bathroom space is really limited, then consider adding some hanging greenery in a corner.
This is particularly important if your bathroom is being used by guests, or if your bathroom lacks storage and you are forced to keep those extra supplies out in the open.
The 3 items my kids are most often in need of in their bathroom are the ones I chose to put in this $2 thrift store basket. That way they can easily grab these organic cotton hand towels, soap, or more toilet paper whenever they need it!
So there you have it…Simple Tips to Easily Take Your Bathroom from Boring to Beautiful!
